Guide to Faucet Repair in Orange County
Are you having trouble with a faucet in your Orange County home? If, like most people, you aren’t a professional plumber, then you may not know how to begin identifying the problem, much less figuring out how to fix it. Fortunately, we are here to help. Use these easy guide to faucet repair in Orange County to help you figure out your faucet problem.
1. Your faucet makes a high-pitched screeching noise when the water is turned on. This is usually a sign that the rubber washer inside the faucet is due for replacement. Inside every faucet, there is a small rubber ring. This piece is called a washer. As time goes by, the washer gets hard and can start to disintegrate. When the washer hardens and water runs over it, it can make a screeching sound. Fortunately, this is very easy to fix. Just remove the cap from the end of the faucet, and you’ll see the washer inside. Take the old washer out, and take it with you to the hardware store to get an appropriate replacement. Put the new washer in, reassemble the faucet, and you’re ready to go.
2. There is a clanking sound coming from the faucet. In this situation, you first need to figure out whether the sound is coming from the faucet or the pipes. You’ll have to listen carefully to determine the original source of the sound. If the sound seems to be coming from the faucet, then you will need to disassemble the faucet and inspect all of the components for cracks. If you do find a crack, replace that component, and the problem should be solved. If you can’t find the problem, then you will need to call in a plumber to track down the source of the problem.
3. The faucet makes a squeaky sound when you turn it on. If your faucet squeaks, it is often because the threads inside the handle are worn out. You don’t have to replace the entire faucet assembly, though. You just need to give the threads a bit of lubricant so that they don’t squeak. Take the handle off the faucet, and rub a bit of petroleum jelly on the threads. Reassemble it, and you shouldn’t hear any more squeaking.
4. Water comes spluttering out of the faucet instead of flowing in a steady stream. This is a sign that the aerator in the faucet is clogged. When you look into the faucet, you will see a small screen over the end of the faucet; this part is the aerator. You can easily clean out any clogs in the aerator by unscrewing it from the faucet and rinsing it in vinegar. For good measure, you can brush it clean with an old toothbrush. This will get rid of any bits that might be clogging it up. Put the aerator back on the faucet, and you should have a steady stream of water once again.
5. Your kitchen sink sprayer just dribbles. This is usually a sign of a problem with the diverter, which is a valve inside the faucet stem. You can take the faucet stem apart and remove the diverter. Clean it out just like you would do with an aerator, using vinegar. Reassemble the diverter, and you should have a strong spray.
